IJE®

Terms & Conditions

The agreement between you and Ije when you apply or pay for a seat.

Terms and Conditions of Ije

1. About these terms and about Ije. “Ije” is a service operated by Raba Technologies, a business name registered in Nigeria under the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020 (BN 3327509). In these terms “we,” “us,” and “our” mean Raba Technologies. Payments for a seat are made to Raba Technologies, which is the name you will see on our account. Ije curates dinners for strangers in Lagos: you apply through our form, a human curator builds a table of six around you if a fit exists, and you meet over dinner at a restaurant on a Friday evening. By applying, creating a profile, or paying a curation fee, you accept these terms in full. If you do not accept them, do not use our service.

2. Eligibility. Ije is for adults aged 21 and above. By applying, you represent and warrant that you meet this requirement. Misrepresenting your age is a breach of these terms and grounds for removal from our pool and forfeiture of any fee paid, without prejudice to any other remedy available to us.

3. Applying and matching. There is no charge to apply. Submitting the form creates no obligation on Ije to match or invite you, and we may decline any application at our sole discretion. Matching depends on finding a table where your personality, interests, and circumstances genuinely fit five other people, which can take time; we do not guarantee a timeframe for a match.

4. Invitation and the curation fee. If a table is built around you, we invite you by WhatsApp, our only channel of communication with applicants and guests. Accepting an invitation requires payment of the ₦10,000 curation fee by the deadline stated in your invitation. We invite more people than there are seats. Seats are allocated in the order payments are received, and if yours arrives after the table is full we will hold your fee for the next dinner or refund it in full, whichever you prefer. The fee covers the cost of organising the dinner, including planning and coordination with the venue, and is separate from the meal itself, which you pay directly to the restaurant on the night. Some venues set a minimum spend per guest; where they do, we tell you the amount in your invitation. The fee is not a subscription and does not entitle you to any further dinner beyond the one it secures.

5. Cancellations and refunds. If you cancel more than 48 hours before the dinner, we refund your curation fee in full, or hold it for the next dinner if you would rather. If you cancel within 48 hours of the dinner, the fee is not refundable, because by that point we have already committed the table and the venue on the basis that you would attend. If Ije cancels a dinner, reschedules it in a way you cannot make, or is unable to seat you after you have paid, we refund your curation fee in full. Refunds go to the payment method used, within a reasonable time.

6. Dietary needs and allergies. If you tell us about a dietary restriction or allergy, we pass it to the venue in good faith, but we do not prepare or serve your food and cannot guarantee that every requirement will be accommodated. You are responsible for confirming your own dietary needs with restaurant staff on the night. Ije is not liable for how a restaurant handles a dietary request.

7. Conduct. By applying, you agree to be respectful, polite, and considerate of everyone you meet through Ije, and you understand that inappropriate, disrespectful, harassing, or discriminatory behaviour can result in your removal from a dinner and exclusion from future ones, at Ije’s discretion and without refund. You also agree not to use a dinner to solicit other guests commercially, not to record or photograph other guests without their consent, and not to share another guest’s contact information or anything said at the table without that guest’s consent.

8. Attendance and no-shows. If you accept an invitation and do not attend without reasonable notice to us, this is recorded against your profile and may affect whether we invite you again.

9. Meeting strangers. Ije introduces you to people you have not met before. You choose what to share with them, both at the dinner and afterward, and you are responsible for your own judgment and safety in doing so, in the same way you would be meeting anyone new. Ije is not responsible for the conduct of another guest once you are no longer in our care, including anything that happens after a dinner ends. If you feel unsafe or unwelcome at any point during a dinner, tell our creative director immediately.

10. Photographs. We may photograph our dinners, including at a photo booth where one is provided. We only use images that identify you for marketing if you have separately and expressly agreed to that, as set out in our Privacy Policy. Otherwise, we use only images that do not show your face.

11. Your information. Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and why, and forms part of these terms. By applying, you also agree to it.

12. Third-party platforms. We use WhatsApp to communicate with you and Tally to run our application form. We do not control either platform and are not responsible for their availability, security, or any change either makes to how it operates. You can stop our WhatsApp messages at any time by replying STOP.

13. Intellectual property. The Ije name, our curation process, and the content we publish belong to us or our licensors. You may not copy, reproduce, or use any of it for a commercial purpose without our written permission.

14. Disclaimer. Ije curates introductions and organises the logistics of a dinner. We do not provide the meal itself, which is the restaurant’s responsibility, and we do not guarantee that any dinner will meet your expectations of company, conversation, or outcome.

15. Limitation of liability. To the fullest extent Nigerian law allows, Ije’s total liability to you arising from these terms, or from your participation in any dinner, is limited to the curation fee you paid for the dinner in question. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including loss arising from the conduct of another guest or from a restaurant’s food, service, or premises. Nothing in this clause limits our liability for our own gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or for anything Nigerian law does not permit us to exclude.

16. Indemnity. You agree to indemnify Ije against any loss, claim, or cost arising from your own conduct at or in connection with a dinner, or from your breach of these terms.

17. Suspension and removal. We may suspend or remove your profile, without notice, if we reasonably believe you have breached these terms, behaved in a way that puts another guest at risk, or given us false information.

18. Changes to these terms. We may update these terms as Ije grows. Continuing to use Ije after a change takes effect means you accept it.

19. If part of these terms is found invalid. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply, and the unenforceable part is read down to the narrowest form that keeps it valid.

20. No waiver. If we do not enforce any part of these terms on one occasion, that does not stop us enforcing it later.

21. Assignment. We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another entity, including in connection with a sale or restructuring of Ije, provided your rights are not diminished by the transfer. You may not transfer your rights under these terms to anyone else.

22. Force majeure. Ije is not liable for any failure or delay caused by something reasonably beyond our control, including a venue closure, severe weather, civil disturbance, or a failure of WhatsApp or another platform we rely on. Clause 5 still governs any refund due where this happens.

23. Governing law and disputes. These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Before going to court, raise a dispute with us directly at hello@ije.life so we have a chance to resolve it; failing that, the dispute is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Lagos State.

24. Please note before you pay. Clauses 9, 14, 15, and 16 set real limits on what you can hold Ije responsible for, and clause 16 asks you to cover Ije’s costs if your own conduct causes a claim. Read them before you pay the curation fee. If anything in them is unclear, write to hello@ije.life before paying, not after.

25. Contact us. Write to hello@ije.life with any questions about these terms.
